J Brand Sateen 901 Coated Leggings in Coated Purple

I was interested in trying out one of the coated legging styles that are currently hitting hard on the denim scene.  So I decided to go with a trusty brand that I favor.  These are J Brand’s Sateen Leggings.  The fit is actually quite similar to the J Brand Twill Leggings (see our review here) that I reviewed a few weeks ago.  These are skin tight leggings.  In fact, when I first tried them on, I almost thought perhaps I should have gone up a size.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get them on.  But as I squeezed myself into them, they actually felt pretty nice.  They don’t have a whole lot of stretch to them initially, but they do form to your body as you wear them.   They’re made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex, but they feel like leather because of the waxy coating finish.

The front pockets are faux pockets, which makes sense since these are meant to be very fitted all over.   The leg opening is 9.5 inches.  The rise measurement is 7 inches.  The waistband is pretty tight and without much stretch at all.  I’d say these are about a half size small.  If you’re in between sizes, I’d recommend going up in size.

The color is called Coated Purple.  The color actually reminds me quite a bit of J Brand’s fall Aubergine wash (which I reviewed in the 511 Skinny Cords and 811 Twill Leggings) but with a waxy finish.  So as far as color, I am definitely sold on this wash.  It’s a very pretty deep, dark purple.  I’ve been seeing a lot of darker colors in these coated styles, such as black or navy blue.  So it was nice to see something a little different in this purple color.

These are definitely not your everyday go-to jeans.  However, they are a great pair of pants to dress up for a night out.  And they’re a really fun alternative to the classic blue jeans.

The washing instructions on these are:  dry clean only.

Rihanna and Kate Beckinsale were some of the celebrities seen wearing J Brand 901 Coated Leggings.
