Guest Review: J Brand 901 Velvet Leggings in Charcoal

I have a new LOVE in the Denim world, and it’s J Brand. This happened after I bought a pair of the 811 twill in Aubergine (see previous StylePosts review). I completely fell in love with the feel of the material and cut especially how it hugs my curves in all the right places. As a result, I decided to try other styles in this line, and picked the Low Rise Velvet leggings as the next one to try. Wearing velvet in cooler weather especially around the holidays seemed so cozy to me.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT? I like the smooth and luxurious feel of velvet and this pair of leggings didn’t disappointment. When I see velvet, I always associate it with being dressy. However, this pair of leggings is very versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on the top. I’ve worn this out and about during the day shopping, and planning on wearing this out on date nights and to parties. I also like how comfortable it feels. It actually does hug the body tight, but the spandex allows you to move around with comfort. Rise is really important to me. Per my previous review (Genetic Denim Cigarette), I chase around a toddler and don’t feel comfortable bending down when the back rise is too low. Although J Brand named this as “low rise,” I don’t need to wear a long tank beneath my shirt to cover the back like my other low rise jeans. The inseam length is 30 inches and hits me at my ankle (I am 5’6’’). It is an added plus that I don’t need to hem them. At this length these leggings look great with heels or boots. As for sizing, I would stick to your usual J Brand size.s

WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT IT? These leggings do require some maintenance when wearing them since they attract lint and dust. I have a lint remover nearby to maintain the smooth velvet look. The belt hoops are small and fragile so you’ll need to be careful not to use them as leverage to pull up the leggings.

In closing, I really like this pair of leggings. They are comfortable as the leggings stretches with you when you move but still maintain its shape. The versatility of dressing it up or down is another plus. You can’t go wrong with adding this piece to your winter wardrobe. This style comes in a few other colors such as wine, sapphire blue, terra cotta, suede, raspberry, riviera blue, aubergine, and black.
