2011 Summer Trends

This summer’s trends have a wide variety of styles that are sure to hit hard on the denim scene. Think bright bold colors, motorcycle jeans, zipper skinnies, wide leg, cropped, and high waists.

Colored Denim: This trend is not exclusive to bright bold colors, but you’ll be sure to see a lot of pastel colors as well. Check out some of J Brand’s, Current Elliott’s as well as Rag and Bone’s colored denim. Some celebrities already rocking this trend are: Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Cameron Diaz, Hayden Panattiere, and Anna Kendrick.

Motorcycle Jeans:  Think skinny. This style is most flattering when it’s slim. Check out styles by James Icon Jeans and Vintage 1. Some celebrities seen wearing this style are: Nicky Hilton, Kate Hudson, and Whitney Port.

Zipper Skinny Jeans:  This style reminds me of the 80s (if you are old enough to remember this trend!) when Guess zipper jeans were hot. But this season, zipper jeans are done even hotter! This is another skinny style with a little added something with the side zipper. You can find J Brand and Black Orchid’s zipper styles. Check out some celebrities seen in this style, such as Charlize Theron, Kristen Cavallari, and Eva Longoria.

Wide Leg:  If you’ve got the long legs to pull off this look, then go for it. And even if you’re not supermodel tall, wideleg jeans can really lengthen the look of your legs. This style is a great tribute to the best of the 70s style. Check out Citizens of Humanity and True Religion’s styles. Some celebrities favorites of this style are Rachel Zoe, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Kourtney Kardashian.

Cropped:  When you see some of the new cropped styles out, you’ll probably find many that are a bit destroyed. These are a great relaxed looking style, for day or evening. And because they’re cropped, they’re easily worn by women of any height. Wear them rolled up or not. Check out some of the styles by JET by John Eshaya, J Brand, and True Religion.

High Waisted: (7FAM Georgia) When I think of high waisted, I often think of “mom jeans.” But make no mistake, this summer’s high waist trend is not a “mom jeans” high, but rather a sexy flat tummy high. This look is definetely not for everyone, but if you can pull it off, be sure to check out the styles by 7 For All Mankind, J Brand, and MIH. Some celebrity fans of this style are AnnaLynne McCord, January Jones, and Cheryl Cole.

i really like those motor cycle jeans… where could i find them? and is the material very thick? it gets pretty warm here in LA so i’m just wondering if it would be more appropriate for a cooler season.

Thanks for your comment, epark! The material on these aren’t very thick. These sold out quickly but were recently brought back by popular demand and can be bought directly from James Jeans. We’ll be doing a review on these jeans very soon. Stay tuned.

How do these jeans run (James Jeans moto). are the true to size? I’ve heard mixed reviews. I am normally a 26 in denim but certain brands run big and I can go down to a 25. any advice?

This is a great site to go to, I would love to see models of all sizes so it would be easier to tell what jeans can fit my size.

    • Susan says:

Thanks for your comment, Breanna. We try to give as much detail as we can and allow our readers to decide which jeans are best suited for their bodies. But we will certainly have models of different sizes in upcoming reviews. Stay tuned, and thanks for stopping by!
