J Brand Ginger Skirt in Vintage Marine

Why am I wearing rain boots in the Summer?  Well, in my part of the Americas, we don’t really have a summer.  In my part of the world, I have a wet season and a dry season.   And when it is wet season, it is really wet.  Right now, we are in the wet season.  So, there are some days when I have a small window without the heavy rains to get out and take advantage of the overcast weather and take quick pictures.  The ground is a bit damp and so I pulled out my Hunters for these photos.  And if I want to be completely honest, I really love my Hunter boots and wear them all the time.

So, let’s get to it.  What do I like about J Brand’s Ginger Skirt? I like the material of this skirt.  It feels like the Japanese twill that J Brand Houlihans (See our review here) are made of.  It has great stretch and feels cool against the skin.  I like the color, Vintage Marine that reminds me of a faded navy blue.   The back pockets are the usual good placement that J Brand is known for.  And of course, I love that it is J Brand, being a big J Brand that I am.

What do I not like about this skirt?  Although, I like the material and I love it on J Brand’s Houlihan jeans; I don’t really care for it on this skirt.  I feel like even though it has great stretch, it then hugs the rear and pinches at the length; a look that I don’t necessarily care for in a mini skirt.  I feel like the skirt hugs my hips and thighs so much that it doesn’t stay really well on my waist.   When I walk, I can feel the skirt rising and so I end up having to stop and tug the skirt down.  I consider this a wardrobe malfunction.  Maybe a heavy belt would help to weigh the skirt down in place 😉  This skirt feels like a spandex skirt more than a denim skirt.  Also, I am not too crazy about the side zippers.  The placement of these zippers accentuates the hips and creates a wider look, which is great for the girls who don’t have hips but really how many of them are out there compared to those of us who do have hips?

This is your standard button and zip fly.  If you love a mini skirt that hugs, then these are for you.  I personally, prefer something a little less clingy.

  1. You look lovely and I like your Outfit, wearing Wellingtons with your Denim Mini is adorable.

    • Song says:

      Thanks Julia!
Love my Wellingtons 🙂 Who says it’s just for rain?! I wear them all the time. I like your red ones…looking forward to adding other colors to my collection. Take care.

      • You are so right Song, Wellingtons are too good to be worn only in the rain, I wear mine a lot and also have a pair in glossy fuschia pink which look great with thin black Tights and Shorts and I get many admiring glances when I wear them
Hunter are making Wellingtons in really delightful colours now so you have plenty of choice and I hope that you will post more pics wearing them.
