Joe’s Jeans Bandana Ethnic Shorts in Plum

So it’s no secret by now that I’m a big fan of the color purple.  So it’s probably pretty obvious as to what attracted me to these shorts.  They had such an interesting design, I was so curious to try them out.  And given our current heat wave, I was in need of some summer wear.  These are Joe’s Jeans Bandana Ethnic Cut-Off Shorts.

These are not your basic shorts given the design on these.  They have an abstract repetitive design of purple and red flowers.  The background is a very light lavender color.  What’s even more interesting about these shorts is the waistband.   It has a purple paisley design, which looks like that of the material of a classic bandana (hence the name) which contrasts surprisingly well with the floral design on the shorts.  The wash name is Plum which is pretty much the first color your eye sees when you look at the shorts.

The material is very interesting.  They’re made of 93% cotton, 6% polyester, 1% lycra, which feels very smooth.  In fact, it doesn’t feel like denim.  The material reminds me of that of worn in taffeta.  There’s not a lot of elasticity to these shorts, but they do stretch out somewhat after a little wear.  I’d say they run almost a size small.  I’m used to Joe’s Jeans fitting a little larger, but these shorts fit smaller than the average pair of Joe’s Jeans.  I took a size up in these because I prefer my shorts to fit more relaxed.

The rise measurement is 9 inches, which is a little higher than I usually wear my shorts.  But I am really loving the higher rises these days.  There’s something very retro about higher rises, and these jeans with their pattern have a very bohemian feel to them.  I love that although they have a very decorative design, they’re still fairly subtle because of the uniformity in color.

The leg opening is 22 inches with a frayed hem, allowing these shorts to have a comfortable slight flare.  I prefer my shorts to not cling to the leg like my skinny jeans do.  I also love that these shorts aren’t extremely short.  With a 2 ¾ inch inseam, they’re not too short as to make me feel overly self-conscious (the total length of the shorts is 13 inches).  Keep in mind, measurements may vary slightly with different sizes.

With the warm weather upon us, and with the summer parties and barbeques coming up, these shorts are perfect for those occasions.
