Guest Review: Genetic Shane Cigarette Leg in Moon

When I buy designer jeans, I typically stick to my usual brands like Citizens of Humanity, 7 for All Mankind, and True Religion.  I know how they will fit and typically what size to buy.  The only way I venture out to try a new brand is if I read good reviews, received good recommendations, OR if the jeans are on sale!  I CAN’T pass up on good sales.  🙂   I figure the deep discount is a good incentive to venture out of my comfort zone.  This pair of Genetic Shane Cigarette fell into the deep discount category.

Given my body type which is on the curvy side, I was hesitant that a cigarette, skinny jean would look good on me.  I always envision that type of denim would look best on very skinny people.  I was surprisingly wrong! (or maybe I am wrong… You can be the judge!)

What DO I like about this denim?  I like the Moon wash.  Although considered a dark wash, it is casual enough to wear during the day but allows you to dress it up for going out at night.  I also like the creasing at the hip area.  This in conjunction with the distress that gives it a worn and torn look which I LOVE!  The rise is not too low which is nice for a busy mom on the go.  I don’t have to worry about exposing too much when bending down to pick up my kid.  Lastly, I really like their DNA signature logo which could be found near the right back and front pockets.

What DON’T I like about this denim?  This pair of jeans is very stiff.  After a few months of wearing it (although infrequent), it still feels rigid and not comfortable.  Even though the jean has 2% Elastane, it didn’t stretch much which further accentuates the stiffness.  There are two large distressed areas that hit near my knees.  Large movements like bending down ripped these distress areas making them even bigger. Lastly, the large button on the front with the Genetic logo feels larger than regular buttons.  The button hole is not large enough to accommodate the larger button making it difficult to button up.

In conclusion, this denim is cute but definitely not my ‘go-to’ jean.  In hind sight, because the denim didn’t stretch and is stiff, I would have ordered a size up so it feels more comfortable.  This style comes in many washes like ash, zinc, coal, forever blue, blue wash, oxide, silver, grey graffiti, and black lace.  Some celebrities seen sporting this brand were Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart, and Brittany Spears.
